Why does my cat meow all the time?

Cats meow to communicate with people and/or animals around it. However, for several reasons, some cats meow more than others.

In this article, you will discover the causes.

1. A talkative cat

Meows depend essentially on the animal’s breed and behaviour. Breeds which are more likely to meow are the Siamese, the Balinese, the Birman, the Cornish Rex, the Japanese Bobtail, the Korat and the Tonkinese.

2. Expressing a need

Being a real communication tool for cats, meowing allows them to express a vital or affective need. In fact, they may be asking for food, water or a clean litter but also attention and cuddles from their owners. You must then look after them and cater to their needs.

3. Expressing a pain

With old age, cats may suffer from certain diseases such as thyroid and arthrosis. Hence it expresses its pain through meows. This is why you must be careful when a discreet cat, which does not meow often, starts doing it regularly. If the meows last, do not lose time and see a veterinary.
